Lucy Grace

Welcome

I write about place, nature, climate, scale and temporality, particularly geological (deep) time and the contrast of human lifespan against that of rocks. Scale is fascinating, as are trees, roots, mycelium, the nonhuman and the underground. Many human systems echo natural and lithic systems. We are fleeting visitors on a planet, measured so elegantly by Carl Sagan. The last Ice Age ended in the last twenty-seven seconds of his 365-day Cosmic Calendar; primitive humans developed at 10.24pm on 31 December, and modern humans have only existed for eight seconds. Thinking like a geologist may be comforting in crisis: narrative is our way of sharing stories.

Latest news:

In January 2026 I’m taking the ‘Start Writing Your Novel’ six week course in Nottingham – for those with an idea, or a desire, or to give as a gift for someone with a story to tell. Friendly, helpful advice, support and teaching to get the ball rolling and then keep it rolling! Hope to see you there. Apply through Nottingham Trent University in the link above.

Myskatonic are developing one of my stories into a feature film. I am co-writing the screenplay now along with Kingsley Marshall and Ryan Mackafall. Think ‘The Last of Us’ / ‘Stand by Me’ / ‘DARK’ / ‘Lord of the Flies’ / ‘The Beach’ and add in some climate flooding, Doggerland and a spot of cannibalism. Folk horror at its most tasty – see the link below for more.

Ryan Mackfall has over 15 years of experience in music documentary and video and live performance, working with some of the biggest global artists (including Bruce Dickinson, Green Day, Train, Trivium, and Caspian) and shooting in the world’s most recognizable venues, including Wembley Stadium and the Royal Albert Hall.

Kingsley Marshall has over a decade of experience across a range of production roles in music video, shorts, feature documentaries, including Atlas Pool (Jane Darke and Andrew Tebbs 2025), and a slate of feature films as executive producer including Rose of Nevada (Mark Jenkin 2025), Ebony and Ivory (Jim Hosking 2024), Enys Men (Mark Jenkin 2023), Long Way Back (Brett Harvey 2022), The Tape (Martha Tilston 2021), and Wilderness (Justin John Doherty 2017).

Myskatonic is committed to developing new and emerging talent and increasing the visibility of the UK’s regional film industry and the history and culture of our home in Cornwall to a worldwide audience.
